Boys U15 - Region 1 Semi-finalist

The FC Greater Londonderry Boys U15 team made history last week by becoming the first team from Londonderry to win a game in the US Youth Soccer Region1 Championships.  This tournament is comprised of the 15 State Cup Champions in Region 1, and 1 team from the Premier League.  Region 1 is made up of teams from Maine, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Vermont, New York West, Eastern New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania West, Eastern Pennsylvania, Delaware, Virginia, West Virginia, and Maryland.  This year the 2013 Tournament was held at the University of Rhode Island in Kingston, RI.

They didn’t just settle for the one win, however.  The team also won their bracket and advanced to the semifinals, earning themselves a bronze medal.  Londonderry went 2-1 in their preliminary round bracket by defeating Soccer of Columbia United Premier (MD) 3-1, losing to Penn Fusion SA PL ’97 Boys (PAE) 0-4, and beating Mass Premier Soccer Bulldogs (MA) 2-1.  Unfortunately, their dream came to end with a 0-5 loss to Arlington SA Impact Red (VA) in the semifinals.  However, this loss did not dampen the teams spirits.  It just raised the bar for next year’s expectations, and renewed the team’s needed commitment to get there.
